Harness ‘Final Field’ Large Wagers

October 21st, 2008
Harness ‘Final Field’ Large Wagers

Auckland T.C. - Friday 16 October

Race 6 – 1st  Genius opened $4.50 & closed $4.50 – Largest wager $600 at $5.00

                La Femme D’Argent (2nd) $1,000 at $5.50

                Our Sunny Whiz (3rd) $2,000 at $1.70, $1,300 at $1.70 & $1,000 at $1.70 (X3)

We lost on the winner but it was a good result in multi-wagering with around 90% of multi-wagers on the night having the favourite as an anchor.

Race 7 – 1st  Another Matter opened $3.80 & closed $2.60 – Largest wager $4,000 at $3.00

                Tintin In America (7th) $5,000 at $1.60

We had a couple of large multi-wagers finishing on the favourite Tintin In America and he was the best backed runner in the race. The late money came for the winner and we took a couple of large wagers on him closer to start time, the largest $4,000 at $3.00 and $3,000 at $2.80.  The first bet in the morning was $200 on the favourite at $1.30 and the second wager was $221 at $3.80 on Another Matter.

NZ Metro T.C. - Friday 16 October

Race 1 – 1st  Cullen’s Creek opened $4.50 & closed $3.20 –  Largest wager $1,492 at $3.50

We saw some early money come for the winner in the first hour of trading and we did bring his odds into $3.50 but he still closed as our worst result. The favourite Franco Natura  (3rd)  was the best backed runner in multi-wagers. The only runner not to attract a bet was Fine Society (11th)  a 60 - 1 rated runner.

Race 2 – 1st  Stunin Cullen opened $1.60 & closed $1.60 – Largest wager $5,000 at $1.60

No surprise to see the winner take most multi-wagers after his impressive recent trial and with a few large single wagers he was a bad result for the ‘book’. We didn’t sell a ticket on Glenfarg (7th) who opened at $41 and closed at $101. Some late money did come for Sterlish but it was never going to be enough to soften the Stunin Cullen damage.

Race 5  1st Mon Star opened $5.50 & closed $3.80 – Largest wager $300 at $4.50

                 Makarewa Sun (2nd)  $2,000 at $3.00

                 Another Moment (6th) $500 at $5.50

The winner was a small losing result on the single ‘book’ and also a losing result in the multi- finals on the race.  There were also a few large multi wagers starting on the winner into a few of the favourites in the later races.

Race 7 – 1st  Absolute Magic opened $1.60 & closed $2.20 –Llargest wager $500 qat $2.20

               Ohoka Utah (2nd) $500 at $5.00

The late money came for Fiery Falcon (3rd) and he closed at $2.60 after opening at $3.50. The ‘book’ won in the single ‘book’ on the winner but he was a bad result in multi-wagers.

Race 8 – 1st  With Intent opened $5.50 & closed $5.00 – Largest wager $300 at $5.50

                Doctor Mickey (2nd) $3,000 at $4.00 & $1,000 at $5.00

                Brownie (5th) $500 at $7.00

We took a couple of large wagers on the favourite Doctor Mickey and he closed at $2.80 after opening at around $6.00. Our opening favourite The Sheriff was late scratched and that did alter the odds significantly five minutes from post-time..

Race 9 1st  Bachelorette opened $8.00 & closed $12 – Largest wager $300 at $12

                Ohoka Rebel (3rd) $2,000 at $2.60 & $500 at $2.60 (X3)

This was our best result on the night with the ‘book’ only losing on the favourite Ohoka Rebel.

Race 11 1st Lady Dancer opened $10 & closed $6.00 – Largest wager $700 at $6.50

                   Whosgunagetit (13th) $500 at $7.50

The ‘book’ lost on the winner but as it was driven by Dexter Dunn it came as no surprise, it doesn’t matter what he drives the punters just want to be on him.

Betting report 29 August

September 1st, 2008

Friday 29 August – MZ Metro T.C.

Race 1: ‘Perfect For Now’ opened $3.80 & closed $3.50

The ‘book’ held a small loss on the winner but easily the best backed was Gammel Danske ($5.00 - $4.40). The early morning money was for Ulter Boy (9th) who opened at $9.00 but after around 1:00pm

trading on that runner went quiet and he closed at $15. The favourite did get customer’s off to a good

start in multi’s.

Race 2: ‘Belle Eyre’ opened $10 & closed $11

The winner was well supported in the morning and her price did come into $8.00 around 10:00am on the

weight of money. There were no big wagers on her just plenty around the $100 - $200 mark. The best backed runner closer to post-time was Chief Inanga (8th) who has proved to be a costly runner for our

customers over the past two weeks. Mocca Man (4th) was the best backed runner in multi trading, he

opened at $3.00 and closed at that price. The winner closed a good result for the ‘book’.

Race 4: ‘Scotlynn Hamish’ opened $2.60 & closed $2.20

The favourite Scotlynn Hamish didn’t get backed in the morning but we did take some large multi-wagers on him as soon as the ‘book’ opened. Dream Supreme (2nd) was the best backed runner late along with Navy Cross ($7.50 - $4.80). We lost on the favourite and plenty of multi’s were well on their

way into the later races.

Race 5: ‘Del’s Hoof N It’ opened $6.00 & closed $7.00

We opened Moment Of Truth (3rd) at $5.00 and as soon as we opened $1,000 and $500 wagers went on him. He closed at $2.20 on the ‘book’ and $2.60 the tote a price that surprised us and he would have done some damage had he won. The winner Del’s Hoof N It repeated his last start performance with an

easy win but he did have an easier trip that the favourite. The late money came for The Fat Controller which opened our $2.60 favourite (closed $3.00 final Field and $2.80 tote).

Race 6: ‘Be Artful’ opened $7.00 & closed $4.00

We will have to start to show Be Artful a bit more respect as this is the second week we have opened him up at well over tote closing price. He only won by a nose but that was enough to do some damage

to the ‘book’ as he was once again well backed in early trading. The late money came for Partywiththehotgirl (2nd opened $7.00 - $6.00). The favourite Charisteas (4th) was the best backed in multi trading and was

an unlucky runner coming from the back in a race run with a quick last half so he will be kept safe again

next time he starts.

Race 7: ‘Special Ops’ opened $6.00 & closed $8.00

We had a few calls telling us we had the first two favourites around the wrong way but we knew it was going to be easy to sell both runners and the only damage would come in multi betting. We took $3,000 bets on both London Legend and Ohoka Rebel and a few $1,000 wagers on them. London Legend did close as our only losing result but trading on the race was steady all day and it was never going to be a

bad result in the single trading ‘book’. The winner took a few wagers but the two favourites did scare off most wanting to get involved heavily on the remainder of the field.

Race 8: ‘Domination’ opened $7.50 & closed $12

As expected the favourite Makarewa Sun (2nd) was all customers wanted to be on in multu trading and we thought the $1.60 opening price would keep the liability on this horse under control but that was far from what happened as the money just kept coming for him. He closed $1.40 with the ‘book’ and $1.50 the tote, on his run after an early break and a late storming run home for second we doubt we will be offering up opening odds of $1.60 next time he lines up. We closed the winner well over our opening price but it was hard to sell any other runner no matter what price we put up. No surprise that this result

was a good one for the ‘book.

Race 9: ‘Majhac Meddle’ opened $5.50 & closed $9.00

With only two of the previous seven ‘final field’ races on the night won by favourites customers came looking to recoup their loss’s on Music Man which closed at $1.80 after opening at $2.40. The winner took a couple of reasonably sized wagers but did still close a winning result for the ‘book’

A tough night for our customers with a number of well backed favourites getting beaten but it was a

pleasant trend reversal from what the ‘book’ has experienced over the past few weeks.

Biggest winning multi on the night: $100 to win $8,970 -  Scotlynn Hamish $2.30, Del’s Hoof N It $6.00 & Special Ops $6.00.

The report on large wagers in will return next week, the harness desk had the night off and it was left in the capable hands of our rugby league boomaker KG (Kevin Gutschlag) to trade . Kevin is Southland bred and as one would expect coming from that region has a harness background.  Looking at the night’s overall result for the ‘book’ it might pay if the desk has a few more Friday nights off.
