Friday & Saturday Final Field Wagering Report
Friday 09 May Harness ‘Final Field’ Wagering Report
Thames H.R.C.
Race 1 – 1st Montana Mach opened $13 & closed $16 – Largest wager $20 at $16
Franco Tetris (2nd) $2,000 at $4.00, $510 at $6.00, $500 at $4.00 (X2) and $500 at $3.80
Eden Burst (4th) $1,000 at $6.50
James Ryan (8th) $1,200 at $2.60, $600 at $2.50, $500 at $2.60 & $500 at $2.50
We started the night with a huge wagering handle on a one win event with most of the money going on the two favourites Franco Tetris and James Ryan. Franco Tetris closed at $4.00 after having his odds at one stage drifting to $6.00 and we may have been lucky to escape some damage as he put up a great run for second after an early break. When betting closed ‘the book’ was only losing on Franco Tetris with substantial multi-wagers starting on him. The winner was a good result for us as we always had her odds reasonably tight in the market compared to the tote.
Race 3 – 1st Roman Conqueror opened $2.80 & closed $1.55 – Largest wager $6,000 at $1.70 also $3,000 at $2.80
It was all one-way traffic in trading on this race and our customers didn’t have much to worry about over the final 100m. The stable-mate of the winner ‘Commitment’ took some late money when we pushed his price out to $7.00 to reduce some liability on the favourite but we closed ’the book’ losing heavily on Roman Conqueror.
Race 4 – 1st Black Saint opened $4.00 & closed $4.00 – Largest wager $1,000 at $1,000
Sunset Beach (2nd) $800 at $7.50
Allclout (4th) $1,200 at $2.60, $1,200 at $2.30 & $1,000 at $2.60
We closed losing only on the favourite Allclout who we opened at $2.60 (closed $2.30 tote) and a large number of multi-wagers were going through him. We never moved our odds on the winner and he closed a good result. Southern Soky (6th) took some early morning wagering at his opening odds of $14 (closed $8.00 the tote) and was also backed in multi-wagering.
Race 5 – 1st Sweet Courage opened $5.50 & closed $4.50 – Largest wager $500 at $5.50
Ohoka Moon (3rd) $2,000 at $2.50
The winner closed as our worst result even though the largest wager was only $500 but there were plenty of wagers around the $200 - $300 mark. Once again we saw a favourite (Ohoka Moon) taking some large multi-wagers.
Race 6– 1st Dux opened $18 & closed $21 – Largest wager $400 at $21
Lough Beg $2,000 at $4.00, $1,000 at $2.40 & $500 at $3.00 (X2)
Sno’s Big Boy (3rd) $500 at $4.50
Royal Don (4th) $800 at $21
Mountain Woman (5th) $500 at $8.00 (X2)
Surprisingly we lost a small amount on the winner but considering Maurice McKendry’s recent good winning form with trotters, some customers followed the trend into Dux. Lough Beg was backed all day and was going to be a bad result multi wagering wise if she won.
Race 7 – 1st Itz Cherry Ripe opened $1.30 & closed $1.40 – Largest wager $2,000 at $1.40
Two minutes out from post-time we had all runners except the favourite above the tote but we still couldn’t get our customers interested. This race closed the lowest handle on the night and although we did end up winning on the favourite she had plenty of multi-bets running through her.
Race 8 – 1st Pasi opened $2.20 & closed $1.80 – Largest wager $5,000 at $2.00
Take The Loot (8th) $1,000 at $16
There were a few reasonably sized multi investments finishing on the winner and he was easily the best backed runner in single betting. Late money did come for La Femme D’Argent (2nd) but not enough to ease the damage the winner did to ‘the book.
